View Full Version : How to edit your Blog Home Page

October 31st, 2007, 03:02 PM
http://www.onlinedebate.net/images/news/blog.pngI've noticed that not a single blogger has edited their home page, which IMO, is a cool feature of our blog system. Perhaps people just don't know how. This is a brief tutorial. Also, at the bottom, you'll find a quick video tutorial (1:30 secs) that I created. It goes fast, so be prepared to use that "pause" button. ;)

1) First, you must have a blog entry to create your little area on our blog system. You can submit your first entry through the "Submit Entry" link. Type in your first blog article.

2) Go to your blog home page. Do this by clicking on the "Home" link of the blog system (not the forum system).

3) Click your name in the list. This immediately takes you to your "Home Page".

4) In the upper left corner, but below the site's navigation menu, there is a link that says "Edit Modules on This Page". Click that.

5) You'll see a list of "inactive modules" for you to play with. Under each module, there is a dropdown to "Move to" wherever you want in relation to your home page. Next to that, is a field that you can use to "order" the appearance of said module.

6) When you've made your selections, click the "Submit" button to see your changes.

7) You are still in edit mode at this point. You can modify the modules (change titles, add info for those modules allowing input, etc...). You can move them by clicking the small arrow icons, you can even delete them (just makes them inactive and they go back into your list).

To see the final changes, just click the "Hide Module Controls" in the upper left to see you home page.

Here is my home page (http://www.onlinedebate.net/blog/browsecategory.php?catid=0&do=member&entryuserid=1) with a lot of goodies. Let's see how creative you can be. ;)

Here's the quick video tutorial:

<object width="640" height="498" codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash7/cabs/ swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0">
<param name="src" value="odnblog.swf"/>
<param name="bgcolor" value="#1a1a1a"/>
<param name="quality" value="best"/>
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/>
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/>
<param name="scale" value="showall"/>
<param name="flashVars" value="autostart=false"/>
<embed name="csSWF" src="http://www.onlinedebate.net/tut/blog/odnblog.swf" width="640" height="498" bgcolor="#1a1a1a" quality="best" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" scale="showall" flashVars="autostart=false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></embed>

Any questions, please ask.

I will have a look through all the blogs and kick my own off during the coming week. Just spotted this thread - thanks, Apok!
