Okay, i accept the fact that this thread sounds kind of silly, but i can't count the amount of times this question comes up in conversation. My opinion is that she is. I know some people claim that she's really intelligent and is just ditsy sometimes, but some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth, no matter how ditsy you may be at times, just wouldn't come out of a semi-intelligent person's mouth. What do you all think?

It's amazing how stupid you can be for the right amount of money.

No, really, I've heard that she is actually quite intelligent and just puts on the stupid act for the camera. I'm not sure I buy it, either, though...

She's likely booksmart, but a moron :)

Actually, she's probably the opposite.

She's dumb, but she's smart enough to know how to market herself.

She doesnt even need that, as long as she's got the right people to back her up.

There is no question. She's stupid, but well managed.

She's been in the business since she was a child. Her parents set her up, and since then she's been a corporate asset. Just like a car or a building. Those things can been well maintained, and put to good use by the people pulling the strings, just like Jessica Simpson is.

And just like a car or a building, she has no (ok very little) intelligence of her own.

Imagine being born with an I.Q. of 140.

Imagine living a life where the most challenging intellectual pursuit you are exposed to is trying to figure out which outfit to wear to your concert.

Even if she is smart, I don't believe she's been exposed to anything that would challenge her intellect... thus she appears "ditsy".

Take this example: A few months ago, I was doing my laundry at a laundromat. The dirty hippie laundry attendant was watching The Simple Life with Paris Hilton. He was chastising her for not knowing what Wal-Mart was.

Paris Hilton: "Is that where they sell walls?"

I looked over at him and said, "Name three major hotel chains and five New York fashion designers." After looking at my dumbfounded, I explained to him that, intelligence aside, people are the products of their enviroments. Paris Hilton may be about as smart as a box of rocks, but expecting her to know where the poor people shop is like expecting the poor people to know where rich people shop.

My personal opinion? I'd like Jessica Simpson a lot more if a sex tape of her were leaked onto the interweb.

Who cares???? Look like that, she could be missing part of her brain and most people wouldn't care.

I think she is spoiled. She has had the luxury of not having to deal with "real" life as most know it. I agree with Zhavric, She just hasn't been exposed to a certain type of life most of us have.
It's kinda like William Hung...Idiot or marketing genius?

No, the car would win in a battle of wits. I think it would go something like this.

Jessica, "So is it tuna or is it chicken."
Car, "Honk."
Jessica, "But it says chicken on the side."
Car, "Honk."
Jessica, "Oh ok... I get it I think."
Car, "... Idiot."

Writing this may have just decreased my IQ.

I get the impression that it's at leat mostly an act. I think she's trying to mimic the stereotype of rich people, by being a wimp, having little knowlege of the lower class's life, along with being spoiled and ditsy. But as ws mentioned, she doesn't need to show much brains, she's got other stuff.

Dumb as a bag of blonde hammers. I have seen her in a couple of interviews, and I don't think its all an act. True, some of it maybe environmental ignorance, but I wouldn't place a bet on where the line should be drawn.

I believe that she is not that smart because..if you see in all her comercials even though she has a script she still seems not intellegent

Even though this post is pretty dated, I just thought I would chirp in. I, personally, think that while Jessica doesn't always show that she is the sharpest tack in the box, I think if we are seeing the "real" her, most of it is due to her being sheltered and spoiled when she was younger. She was on Oprah with Nick once and she commented how she didn't like to do laundry...not that she couldn't...but that she would rather hire someone to do it. That was my first clue. (Plus, it is hard to think or realize that someone could actually as stupid as she is...or may pretend to be!) ;)

What I worry about more, though, is her influence on young girls. I am around a lot of teenagers and although I know they are not stupid, they have the idea that it is "cool" to be that way and that they will get attention for it, and I have my suspicion that it is because of Jessica and other popsters that have been made famous by not living up to their potential. (And even if this is Jessica's full potential, then I blame the media for pointing it out so much.) This may be going out on a limb, but women have been degraded much throughout history that I think what would really make anyone stupid would be to further the inequality, because if girls, (or guys), do not think they are smart and that dumbing themselves down will gain fame or attention, that only leaves it wide open for the other sex to dominate.

Ah, 'vorsprung durch tecnik' wins out. Shouldn't Jessica just show off her assets, draped across it's bonnet/hood? That would mean she wouldn't have to say much of any consequence - well not that she does.

I don't know if Jessica is exceedingly dumb or not, but her sister Ashlee surely is.

It can't be an act, she can't be that good of an actress. And did anyone see the article in Us or somewhere that said if she wasn't a singer she'd be a shrink......c'mon....seriously...if she can't figure out what chicken of the sea is, someone's going to trust her with their pysche? Thank God she's a singer, better a few cd's than a rising suicide rate thanks to Dr. Jessica

Shrink IQ I imagine is what she meant, in which case she's doing a bang up job already.

Jessica Simpson is THE stereotypical barbie doll wet dream woman: Blonde, big knockers, curvy body, and dumb enough to believe whatever crap that "nick" guy said to get into her pants and mansion cause let's face facts, his music, and career, sucked from start to finish and it was OVER.

Simpson couldn't find her way out of a one way hall with a map and two day headstart. Shooting her would just deflate her empty brainless head and that's more than she or her, surprisingly, dumber sister deserves. Now, I don't wanna get off on a rant here, but if you have a body like Simpson and ZERO intelligence, you belong on the silver screen of an adult theatre, NOT on national television. And I'm not knocking porn stars here, some of them are pretty intelligent, Jameson for example, helped start an adult entertainment company making films with her husband...a director of said films. But Jessica simpson is a genetic waste outside looks and even that's gonna fail her one day and that'll be a sad day when she tries to blow her way through a course in whatever she can spell for a major at a university, that'll probably give her a degree because sex and money matter more than intellectual integrity.

When the Dukes of Hazzard Movie was being made, the original Cooter (No jokes please) protested on the grounds of all the sexual content and Simpson's particular role in the flick. What he SHOULD have protested was her even being IN the movie when A) Jamie Priestley is not only better looking, but covers the southern hottie thing better AND has a level of intelligence equal to most people on an individual basis. Simpson does ONE thing right: lives up to the expectations for the name "Simpson" that Homer set about ten or more years ago.

I don't care if it's tuna or chicken. I'd eat it. What was the question? Oh, brains. Hmmmm. Yeah, I'd still eat it.

Have you heard? She is supposedly in talks to become the new "Bond girl". Do we all start crying now? There goes a perfectly good series of movies.

She'll fit in with Timothy Dalton in the effort to screw over MI6's best secret agent.
