It's directed by the man who directed Borat. Maher's movie seems to have the simple premise that all religions are equally "crazy." I'm not sure how wide the release for this film will be, but I'm pretty sure it will anger a lot of people. Equally.
I am looking forward to seeing it, and believe that the topic of "crazy" beliefs is worth lampooning. I think it will be pretty funny. Will it be humorous to those with faith, however?

I saw it already - at the Traverse City Film Festival.
I thought it was very funny (maybe a bit too much reliance of cutaways of film and TV for humorous effect - although the one cutaway about Jesus was quite funny - can't give it away). Larry Charles, the director, did a Q&A and someone asked him why he primarily featured the more extreme voices in religion and he said when they sought out interviews from people to interview from religious organizations, that was who was forwarded to him.
But the point isn't so much that all religion is crazy but it's that people who do believe some crazy stuff (like the world is going to end in our lifetime) are in charge of making decisions that effect the rest of us and that rationalists should not be afraid to step up and say what's what. Do you really want someone who doesn't believe there's going to be a future making plans for everyone's future?
What's wrong with calling something "crazy" if you really think it's crazy? Why worry about offending someone who's ideology is effecting your life for the worse?

And where exactly does Bill Maher get off criticizing fanaticism? He's not only a member, but serves on the board of PETA. Not only does PETA support the ALF (Animal Liberation Front) which has openly called for and commited acts of violence against people they've deemed to be cruel to animals, but their president Ingrid Newkirk has stated that she'd still be against animal testing even if it did result in a cure for HIV and AIDS. They even support a vegan diet for cats, despite the fact that even the ASPCA states that cats are obligate carnivores!
Granted, as an atheist and democrat, I'm certainly not interested in having a religious fanatic toying with the very mechanisms which affect my life, but as a HUMAN BEING, I certainly don't wany any lunatic who values the life of a lab rat over mine, in any position of either influence or power.
So if Bill Maher wants to make an expose about religious fanaticism - that's great. Maybe next year, we'll get a documentary on tolerance by David Duke!

I'd love to see it. I've watched Maher since he was on ABC.

Don't be poisonin the well. So Maher happens to take some stances we disagree with, we all do. That doesn't make his argument in the realm of religion wrong.

I never said that his argument was wrong. I said it was hypocritical. If David Duke criticized the Taliban for being a terrorist organization, he'd be right, but he would certainly have no right to criticize it considering his involvement with the Ku Klux Klan - an equally violent group also labeled as "terrorist" by the U.S. government.
