Reflections.
They lie there as salty goblets, unwanted and entombed,
the hopes and covenants of yesterdays' promise.
Like crystal balls they glisten, those self-contained spheres of introspection.
Smug, useless, impotent, made redundant by today's reality.
'Acceptance' someone said, 'Get real' advised another,
a careless kick and like a myriad stars they scatter;
dreams and 'if onlies', as one they vanish,
and with their passing that spell is broken.
Long heartaches, consigned to mind's past;
her yesterday man, now today's friend.
