I'm curious about the political breakdown on these forums. What political party do you closest identify with? Note I listed only the QUALIFIED political parties according to To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 3 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I'm in Cali but I think these parties are standard throughout the nation.

I know there are a lot of other parties such as the Communist Party USA (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 3 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) but as I said they weren't a qualified political party, at least not in CA.

Yes, it is obvious almost from my posts that I am left-wing and liberal. I don't know if it's just me, but it just feels like there is a slight majority of right-wing conservative posters here. I just wanted to see for sure.

Also don't take offense if your party is on the bottom. I sorted them alphabetically. :D

Why do you assume all the people on this forum are American and thus are au fait with and identify with US parties?

I really have a hard time identifying with any of the political parties.

The democrats have attracted to many blatantly slimey leaders.

The republicans are all about government control of your private life, and spending more money than we have.

Socialism is economically unproductive

The libertarian party is good on government not regulating the behavior of individuals, but their complete opposition to social programs presents a problem. Certain social programs are absolutely essential to our society, while others need major overhaul.

So... I am truly independent. I will confess, however, that I have a hard time voting for Republicans because they are sooooo influenced by the religious right.

I'm independent. Also AM, Republicans are for LESS government and LESS spending, not more. Republicans typically lobby to lower taxes, Democrats prefer to raise taxes.

Also, Tom, there are more liberals here than conservatives.

Also AM, Republicans are for LESS government and LESS spending, not more.

This is a matter of interpretation. Republicans are for greater social control by the government, but they are for a reduction in the size of parts of the government. However, they wish to expand other parts of the government - mainly the military.

As for spending - the idea that republican presidents want less spending in federal government is a myth, and is not borne out by recent history.

George Bush spends money he doesn't have like crazy. Ronald Reagan drove up our national debt to record levels. We will be paying that debt load off (which comes out of our taxes) for decades to come.

The best combination we have had for fiscal responsibility was a republican congress and Bill Clinton in the White House. (assisted by increased revenues during the internet boom)

Sorry I wasn't thinking about the whole world and there are only 10 max possible poll options, so I was thinking more about just the United States and not the whole world.

Tom 9984 obviously has never lived ion Chicago where there is only one political party and that is the Democrats.

Philosophically I am a Libertarian but find necessary to vote Republican most often because that is the major party which most closely identifies with what I believe:

Individual responsibility.

A strong national defense.

SMall governement and small taxes.

It is the purpose of a federal government to provide a secure environment for its citizens to conduct their affairs. That governement should not interfere too much in the personal lives of its citizens. That is Republicanism.

I am very much against the Law profession though. I am appaledd that so many law makers are trained lawyers. I think we need a law that would limit people who are trained lawyers to fewer than 20% of the seats in Congress and the Senate. Can anyone name one founding father who read law as a profession?

Peace and Freedom sounds cool. Kind of a "make love, not war" sort of attitude. Cool.

Before and after my morning breakfast at Starbucks? None,I do not identify with anyone group. Yet, I am finding an increasing distaste for ideologues. :hmm:

Why do you expect people to identify with a political party?

Wow. This thread's over a year old.

Anyway, I'm registered Republican. However, I don't automatically support anyone with (R) next to their names.

I voted libertarian, though I don't have particularly strong political convictions.

I noticed that Sjjs had posted, and was wondering if he was back, before I checked the date. :) I am nearly a Libertarian. The Libertarian party represents my views almost completely, though they are slightly more environmentalist than I. They still fit me more than any other party, including the democrats.

Ummm... because that is a quick and efficient way to get an overview of one's political views? This is nothing new. Besides which, if you want to influence national policy by voting, you have to pick a party which most closely represents your views (or start your own).

I used to consider myself Republican, but am sickened by the neo-Democrats that have taken control of the party. So, I am a man without a home, er party. Libertarians are too out there. Laissez-faire is one thing. They look to eliminate all forms of government and I am not anti-government.

They don't "fit" me, but I know a lot of people who have your same sentiments and tend to like the neo-lib.

Well, I know I DEFINITELY wouldn't vote Republican. I'm a Canadian citizen so I'm not able to vote, however, if I were, I would have voted Democratic.

Although, I didn't even know there were any other options available...like Green Party, Libertarian, etc. etc....in fact, I don't even know what any of them stand for? :dunno: . So in order for me to make a "heart-of-heart" decison on what I would vote for (if I could), I'm going to wait and read everyone else's input before making a sound decision.

Umm... are you sure you know what Libertarianism is? Libertarian Anarchism (like as in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress) is a totally different thing, and a thing not widely supported by Libertarians. Lib-An really only works in frontier societies, IMO.

Check out the Libertarian Partie's positions. (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 3 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.) Sylje64, you may want to peruse the Canadian Libertarian Party's website (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 3 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.).

I'd say that I most closely identify with the Libertarian Party. The Republicans and Democrats both seem too eager to increase the size and power of government.

Sylje64, you may want to peruse the Canadian Libertarian Party's website.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the Canadian Libertarian Party has a reasonable chance of winning a federal election. In our 2004, the Libertarian Party came in last place (To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 3 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.). I don't even think that they have candidates in every electoral riding. However, if they have a rep in my riding, I'll certainly vote for them.

I don't see how you can be an anarchist (you know greek for without rule, or something similar to that), yet say you are "probably a independat", "or a democrat" , or "a bit conservative".

You do realize that historically, anarchy leads to dictatorship, without fail?
