I think the Grammys are a joke. The number of times the world's greatest band got a Grammy shows this (I'm referring to the Beatles)

I'm with Montalban about the Grammys. Well, pretty much any award show really. I don't think any of them are based on actual talent, and that's sad.

That being said, I made some picks without having a clue what any of these songs were (well, a couple, but not most of the ones I chose).

I did a brief search on the history of the Grammys. Many of the award categories were added in recent years. It's really not fair to classify the whole process as meaningless because it does reflect current modern listening preferences and record sales.

You're right. It's not fair. But, I'm of the opinion that all awards shows should be held for the purpose of honoring artists for their artistic merit and ability. I don't necessarily think that record sales should dictate who is "best" for any category, because numbers aren't necessarily indicative of true talent.

For instance, any boy-band in the 90's...many recieved a lot of awards. However, most did not even have a hand in writing any of the material. I know they're considered 'singers' not 'songwriters' but it just seems off to me that someone can get such huge recognition for work that isn't even theirs.

OMFG, Gorillaz get shafted again. Those guys write better music than Mariah Carey and "Missy Elliott" combined. Oh, and Green Day blows.

I never heard of any of these bands - but I think Death Cab is a lousy name - and WHO IS PEDRO THE LION? I'm getting a Chihuawa and naming it Simba.

Ministry, the greatest rock and roll band of all time has finally gotten a grammy nomination after...what 25 years? But evidently they are nominated in teh "best Heavy Metal" category because as yet there is no "Music that defies categorization" award.

What is funny is that Ministry's biggest hit was a song called "N.W.O." back in 1991-92 inspired by Bush Sr.'s terrible regime adn now Ministry has a song called "No W" inspired by, you guessed it, Shrub's horrible admin.

Said band leader Al Jourgensen :"I write my best stuff when a republican is in office and things are going to Hell. I can't wait for Jeb Bush to run! I will probably have TWO platinum albums then!"

Kelly Clarkson beat out Paul McCartney; Bono and Green Day win again - music is doomed.

The highlight of the show for me was when Sly Stone did his number "Wanna Take You Higher".

If I had time to waste, and watched the Grammy's, I would have to kick my own ass. I am 30-odd years old and can proudly claim to have NEVER watched a television awards show. I will go publicly on record to state it will be a cold day in hell (or a rainy day in California), before I ever begin to watch one.
