Life with St. John of the Latter Day Revival Show

He fills his morning with* stale coffee
& Global warming
New York Times* nightmares
sugar coated & still crunchy in milk
after 2000 years.
Sometimes he wonders that He might be
the Great Wild Beast rising from the sea
with a bottle of Early Times* & a handful of Viagra
& maybe his girlfriend really is
Mystery* Babylon.
(just like his family said)

Whore mother, Harlot queen holding a Bible & a Cup of Vaseline
dripping generic rivers of John 3:16 from her Eden machine.

Still he sees it all
the vague, vast, End of something
gloriously hinted at in the Scriptures
just like Jesus on the tree
saw from the Wailing Wall of China in the year 31
when Annie grabbed her guns
& the Nations whined their way
through contractual Armageddon agreements
& bemoaned their lawyer bills
with the newest loaned Heads of State
on Jericho Hill
in Central Park & Yonkers
in the Capitol of the King &
the first Tampon String
St. John saw it all
the holy*wretched thing
there through his apartment walls
while he was drinking New York coffee
in pounds of sugar, & creamer
dropped in a styrofoam cup
like a diabetic coma measured out*
by spoonfuls
as he scanned the news for a note
from the Creator’s
Loving Hand.

Whisper My Name

The wind flows through my coat
Blowing through my hair
The cold bites at my fingers
Sweet rain scent in the air.

The stars glitter in the blackened sky
As the moon lights my way
And a rainbow ring cases its glow
As the shadows dance and play.

Whisper my name in the wind
And I'll run through the dark
Howl my name
And I'll scream yours back.
Hold me, wrap me in warmth
Calm me, steady my heart.

My mind flutters
Racing hastily in the night,
Following every movement;
Keeping everything in sight

Every motion and sound noted
Tell me I shouldn’t be there
The wind pulls at my coat
rustles the trees, trying to scare.

Whisper my name in the wind
And I'll run through the dark
Howl my name
And I'll scream yours back
Hold me, wrap me in warmth
Calm me, steady my heart.

Find me and follow me
Chase me in the dark
Keep track of my shadow
Hide behind bark.

Find me find me
Hold me I’m scared
Find me and save me
From whatever's out there.

Whisper my name in the wind
And I'll run through the dark
Howl my name
And I'll scream yours back
Hold me, wrap me in warmth
Calm me, steady my heart.

Four Muses

I close my eyes and I can see
four muses sing and dance for me
and as the hours make the day
so, one by one they slip away

One is gone, her dancing done
(and death will not relent)
One has left, but is not gone
(the dowry's just been spent)
One is here but will not stay,
(for soon her time will come)
One is somewhere far away,
(because that is her home)

I open my eyes and I can see
four muses dance, but not for me
So, thankfully, the dance goes on
for long, long after I am gone

In this space

In this space a poem should be,
But ODN was too tempting for me.
I got sucked into a heated debate,
I think someone cried…it was great!

In this space should be a masterpiece,
But I could not harness the creative beast.
I was busy laughing at Dionysis in Jokes and Humor,
Then someone PMed me with the latest rumor.

In this space I could have put a sonnet,
I said, “As soon as I’m done posting, I’m on it!”
Then Apok started talking smack about truth,
As if there are any known absolutes!

In this space I meant to put a rhyme,
Then Tinkerbell posted to a thread that was mine.
So I started thinking about Tinkerbell’s derričre,
After that, I just didn’t really care.

In this space, I might have won the trophy,
Maybe there’s still time for one last entry!
I’ll be sure to PM a new poem to Iluvatar
Oh…in just a minute, I need a new avatar.

In this space, I mean it! It will be the best!
Better than Xan’s, Perv’s, and all the rest!
But Libran gave me some rep, now how much do I have?
Ahhh, I’m still at well over a thousand less than Zhav.

In this space, the winning entry should be,
But alas, it will not be the one written by me,
So I claim the title “Poetry Contest Flunkie”,
Signed, your most faithful ODN Junkie.

So, may the best poem win!

Voting Ends on the 6th of February.

I was torn between St. John and Four Muses, because Four Muses strikes me most emotionally and I think that is sometimes more important than artistry of wording. But I voted for Life with St. John because the metaphors, symbolism, and rhythm were just irresistible for me.

I will be witholding my vote until the last moment so that I can possibly act as a tie-breaker.

Well Snoop, looks like you called that one.I said possible tiebreaker - I'm not going to break a 3-way tie - no way!

If it comes down to a 3 way tie, as it appears to, I will retract my current vote (which is for 4 muses), and replace it in one of the other 2 poems with 3 votes. This is because I said in the rules that I would vote only as a tiebreaker, but I forgot this.

What the heck, someone retied it at 4-4!

I shall be forced to make the tie-braker. It'll happen sometime in the next day or so.
