Wow, thanks for the rep. I'm honored.

Ah, my bad. I will continue further discussion of the details in PM form if necessary... but I think it's all hashed out.

    (This is just a shout)

    What up!

As to the "chip on my shoulder" that I have developed.... I intend our exchange to be nothing but cordial. All I ask is that your well-tuned sense of sarcasm (which is normally appreciated and enjoyed) does not slide into condescension. It's the one thing that will flip my switch, and my reasons for this are plentiful. Regardless, I am going to pay particular attention to my phrasing and keep everything respectful and friendly from the outset. You have my word.

I'm cool with completely doing away with time constraints, but I do want to hold it to a post count. Will thee posts each be enough, do you think?

The topic will specifically be "Christianity is Mythology." For the purposes of debate, I define mythology as "a non-scientific explanation of natural events and states of being, that may also serve as the basis for cultural or moral instructions." I will define several pantheons, including a Christian one, and point out archetypal equivalents and shared motifs in order to make the case that Western Religion is derived entirely from ancient mythology. My main sources will be World Mythology: An Anthology Of The Great Myths And Epics, 3rd ed.., by Donna Rosenberg, and several excerpts by Joseph Campbell from various anthologies.

I'm fairly familiar with the debate over the world "alma", because one of my areas of specialty is the disputes between Judaism and Christianity; I wouldn't mind reading your notes on it anyways, though.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for taking the time to keep a site like this going. I enjoy good debates wherever I can find them. Maybe once I settle in, I may look to write some articles, but I don't want to commit myself just yet. I want to poke around a bit.

Not that is one of my favorite kinds of snarky rhetoric:

    Would have done Ignatius proud.

Also after some digging around apparently the John passage discussing Jesus (the only one I've actually checked so far) uses the Greek "zhlos" to reference a different Hebrew word than is used in Exodus (the passage is actually a quote from Psalm 69), and the Greek word represents in all senses, some sense of emulation and mimickery (whether good or bad), something clearly not applicable to the OT (which was written in Hebrew which you haven't addressed, but hey I don't speak Hebrew anyway). When I have more time (work in half an hour) I may formulate a full reply to it in the thread you posted it in.

EDIT: Nevermind, found qin’ah in the Psalm 69 passage, this Hebrew malarky is surprisingly hard to read when you have only a basic understanding of the Hebrew script.
