This is how to properly destroy someones position. That was one hell of a post you had there. as soon as I can, I will be repping that.

"a superficial and woefully myopic pseudo-logical deduction" - I laughed out loud

It's nice to see someone else go the "slavery" angle in the abortion debate.

Thanks for the Rep. The impossibility of Communism really deserves it's own thread

My ideas have changed a LOT since I started here on ODN. I was a libertarian before I joined ODN, but not to the degree I am today. I refuse to take the term "anarchist" anymore for a million reasons, not the least of which being that I have no real problem with "government" only with the "methods" by which "government" (in today's world) achieves its ends.

I don't think that there is any conflict between "ideology" and "pragmatic implementation" when you realize and accept that a) no ideal will ever cure the human condition and b) people who are unwilling to seize their own freedom are simply not ready for it (i.e. such implementation wouldn't ever work in today's world... specifically in the US). Most people forget those two parts, or don't realize how essential they are to rational discussion of "ideals." "Oh, but you'll still have people doing Bad Thing X." Anyone who claims they can permanently and completely cure the world of Bad Thing X is someone to be feared. And anyone who believes that people who are addicted to "state" can have "state" yanked away from them overnight and not have a reaction a million times more violent than heroin withdraw... They should be feared as well.

This: The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.

Reminds me of this: The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.... (George Orwell, 1984)

Your sig suggests you're AnCap, though I would say some of your argumentation suggests otherwise... Let us just say for now I'm rather confused on the matter. Care to enlighten me?

Hey cool, welcome sir! Neat to have you in these hear parts. Hope you find something satisfying to argue about

Most folks here are not shitting around when it comes to debate which is why I like it.

Cant wait to see if you have something to say.

About wakko
I work full-time, and I'm in school full-time. My presence on ODN is going to be sporadic, and highly dependent upon both my available time and interest level.

I will typically openly concede points. You can view a non-response as either me being busy, or me taking an interest elsewhere.

"... freedom is not, as we are told, a liberty for every man to do what he lists but a liberty to dispose, and order as he lists, his person, actions, possessions, and his whole property, within the allowance of those laws under which he is, and therein not to be subject to the arbitrary will of another, but freely follow his own." -- John Locke, Second Treatise on Government
