    I'm back.....Hehe

Been away for awhile due to some health problems, but I'm feeling better now, so I'll be around here more often.

Also, I left my job working for someone else, and I'm working for myself now so I can do things according to the schedule I want to have.

Being self-employed, I know I'll have to pay higher taxes, so I don't know if this will last forever, but I'm going to give it a shot..

Glad to see you back. Good luck with the self-employment. I am looking to do the same, taxes and regulations are currently holding me back from it

Yes, I know what you mean....It seems like our gov't. doesn't really want us to be self-employed....

They dont. They want us totally dependent on them and to use that power to influence our voting decisions. This government hates people not reliant on them

My mom has been a relator for over a decade (which as far as taxes go, is the same as being self-employed), and while her tax rate is higher, she gets to write of almost EVERYTHING!!!

A percentage of her mortgage, electric, water, and internet. Most of her gas mileage. Total cost of her laptop, printers, ink for printers, etc. Many of her new clothes. The list goes on and on and on.

I HIGHLY suggest hiring an accountant to do your taxes. You would be amazed at how much you actually get to deduct!

Taxes should not be higher when you are self employed. It is just a lot more work to do your taxes such that you are paying what you should be paying. Most folks simply don't pay attention to what is coming out of their paychecks and are kind of shocked when they are self employed.

When self employed you pay more by default because you pay both parts of the social security and medicare tax....whereas when you work for someone elder, you split the tax

But its still part of your salary. As an employer you factor that in when deciding how much to pay people. Its tricky to figure out what your real wage is at a company job, especially if you are salaried. When you work for yourself its plain black and white in your bank account.

What is your business Scarlet, if you don't mind my asking? Curious about you too Someguy.

In my former job (which I recently resigned from), I was a certified veterinary technician, and I also did dog and cat grooming for the veterinary hospital I worked for.

Now, I am starting my own mobile grooming business, where I go to the client's home and groom their pets.

I figure I will have a more flexible schedule, and can take a day off if I need to...Best of all, no more working nights (or weekends, either, if I choose not to)....

Cool job. I hope to have a business model where I do house calls when I get into private practice, but that is going to take some time and a pretty big learning curve.

That sounds wonderful......I wish I could find a doctor who would do house calls...

Congrats on giving it a shot! And welcome back.

Welcome back. And smart move going self employed. While I may be speaking COMPLETELY out of ignorance, I'm gonna go ahead and say that as long as you're doing something you enjoy, and you're working for yourself, the higher taxes is a non-issue compared to those two benefits alone.

You should call the practice "Dr. Feel-good".
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

Welcome back Scarlett! I am glad you start something on your own. We have similar types of businesses here. In fact there is a lady who come to your home, pick up your pet/s, take them to the parlour and when she is done she brings them back.

I hope all goes well for you!

That might get me mistakenly sought out as either a "candy-store" doctor who dispenses prescriptions for Viagra and Oxycodone without reserve... or the head of a questionable male escort/massage/"health care" service.

But I have jokingly called myself that in the nurses' stations when I've given a standing order for Dilaudid for some of our patients with legitimate pain issues.
